A Small Industry Exploded Due To Y2K
by DallasNE

There has long been a Technical Consultant industry but it exploded in size as a result of Y2K then just as quickly imploded in 2000. The other thing not mentioned is the luck of the calendar. January 1, 2000 happened on the weekend. This allowed many companies to hide the extent of the problem they encountered because they had the weekend to fix the problems. And make no mistake, there were problems, though not widespread. Many legacy systems were dumped rather than repaired. Still others were replaced by new software with richer features. Vendors like SYNCSORT built in special features to allow year 00 to sort high to year 99 and that was a Godsend to IT shops because not all dates had to be expanded to process correctly.

Unless you were in the pits one should not talk about Y2K because they are bound to get it wrong.
