AFP President Tim Phillips: God Bless George Soros, Sort Of!

I talked briefly with Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips on his way to a breakout session here. He'll be attending the Glenn Beck "Restoring Honor" rally tomorrow, and said that AFP's summit had been moved up to let activists attend both events. Now, to trust your audience and go through 25 minutes of a nuanced argument? A lot of people wouldn't trust their audience to do that, but conservatives and independents will do that. Glenn Beck deserves a ton of credit for trusting them."
I also asked Phillips if he had any reaction to Jane Mayer's New Yorker profile of the Kochs, and the new-ish scrutiny being applied to the brothers who have supported AFP -- especially David, who continues to be the group's chairman, and is speaking tonight.
"We're proud to be associated with those guys," said Phillips. "They're great Americans. They built a great company. They provide jobs for tens of thousands of American citizens, they pay their taxes. We think it's great that they're involved. Look, you don't hear us attack George Soros for giving $100 million a year -- that's admitted, 100 million -- to the left. We don't attack that at all. This is America! God bless him! He made his money, and let him go out and try and spend it to see his vision of American fulfilled. It's just ironic that this same article says, oh, George Soros, what a great guy! He's doing this for the good of the country. But those mean, dirty Kochs are doing this for personal gain, and corporate greed. What hypocrisy, you know? What outrageous hypocrisy from the left!"
