FidelCastro is trending on news that the 84-year-old has relinquished his role ashead of the Communist Party in Cuba. Since 2006, Castro has taken steps toremove himself from power, most recently in 2008 when he officially steppeddown as president.
Hisresignation was published in a column titled "Reflections of Fidel," inwhich the former president admitted he had felt "almost obligated" tolead Cuba after the 1959 revolution that initially installed him as prime minister.
Fidel'sbrother Raul Castro has been named first secretary of Cuba's Communist Party.
