The New York Times describes the “euphoria” at City Hall in San Francisco as couples discover that Judge Vaughn Walker lifted a stay on last week’s ruling to overturn Prop. 8 in California. Even though the judge has decided to wait until next Wednesday to make the lifted stay official, the reaction was joyous:
“This is history, we made it,” said Dominique Handy, 28, who was waiting in front of the county clerk’s office with her girlfriend, Sheila West, 42, who, both of San Lorenzo, Calif., decided just this morning that they would get married. “I’m in tears.”
