Friday Night Lights , NBC’s show about Texas high school football, is getting some love from pro-choice groups this week. Last week’s episode showed Becky, who is in the 10 th grade, going through the wrenching decision of deciding to have an abortion. For a moment she wavers and regrets that she threw her virginity away. But unlike in Juno , she goes through with it anyway. Meanwhile, her mother berates the doctor who follows state rules by detailing the stage of the fetus. Emily and I discussed this extensively in last week’s TV Club in Slate . Today, a coalition of pro-choice groups have decided to recognize this episode for the groundbreaker that it is, praising NBC for being the first to “portray the decision to choose abortion honestly.”
