John Boehner Gives Shutdown Press Conference, Doesn’t Mention Shutdown

A colleague pointed that out after the speaker of the House finished his brief, two-question statement on the House’s vote to start a conference on the budget. Even when asked about his “message” to those being furloughed, Boehner did not mention that a shutdown was actually occuring.

The message is that … something is happening, and the GOP is trying to make Washington more fair by raising health care costs for federal employees.
