This Is Hopefully the Worst 9/11-Themed Ad We’ll Ever See

“Fore! Appropriating national tragedies!”

Josh Orton pointed out this ad for a golf course in the Wisconsin State Journal, which speaks, idiotically, for itself:

Clearly, the team at Tumbledown Trails should lose an ad manager over this—I’d hazard a guess that said ad creator didn’t recognize the bonus cruelty of the phrase “Expires 9/11/13.” But you’d also think a copy editor at the State Journal would notice the offending material before going to press.

Unfortunately, the Madison-based paper—which broke the news of Gov. Scott Walker’s union-busting law when it was surreptitiously passed in 2011—is owned by the media conglomerate Lee Enterprises. Last year, Lee Enterprises CEO Mary Junck gave herself an 82 percent raise after Capital Newspapers, the partnership company that co-owns the State Journal, was forced to lay off 26 employees. For newspapers, especially hard-on-their-luck local dailies, an ad is an ad.
