Opening Act: Slutbag Makes Good

“Tuesday was an angry day in Weinerland.”

I’ve recently gotten to know Olivia Nuzzi, a hard-working young reporter who interned on Anthony Weiner’s campaign for a few weeks. After she left, and started writing dispatches about the world inside (Weiner calling interns “Monica,” for example), I sent readers her way. She didn’t need the help; the New York Daily News put her last dispatch on the front page. And the response, from Weiner spox Barbara Morgan to Hunter Walker, is … let’s call it “honest.”

Morgan went on to suggest Nuzzi would be unable to get a job in New York City’s political scene as a result of her actions. “Fucking slutbag. Nice fucking glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News. Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again,” said Morgan.

I get what Morgan’s saying—hey, maybe a future campaign will think twice about hiring Nuzzi. But how self-unaware do you have to be to work for the Anthony Weiner campaign and lob that missile? How much clout will you have after this worldwide embarassment creaks to an end? Don’t hate Nuzzi just because she reacted to Weiner’s lies the way any sane person would, by running out of the burning house and grabbing the photo albums. No, Nuzzi will be fine. Morgan I’m not so sure about.
