Worthwhile Virginia Initiative

With that headline I’m daring people not to click and read this, but having covered previous iterations of Virginia’s transportation bill, it’s only fair to record what passed. (PDF)

Original bill: Get rid of the gas tax! New bill: Replace the $0.175 gas tax with a 3.5 percent tax on wholesale fuel and 6.0 percent tax on diesel.

Original bill: Raise the sales tax by 0.8 percent. New bill: Raise it by 0.3 percent. That’s less regressive.

Original bill: Tax alternative-fuel cars. New bill: Increase the car tax, which hits traditional and hybrid and electric vehicles, on a rising scale.

This is much less regressive and more focused on getting people who use services to pay for services, so obviously Ken Cuccinelli is against it.
