Jon Huntsman, presidential candidate:
Jon Huntsman, No Labels advocate, 2013:
Marriage is not an issue that people rationalize through the abstract lens of the law; rather it is something understood emotionally through one’s own experience with family, neighbors, and friends. The party of Lincoln should stand with our best tradition of equality and support full civil marriage for all Americans
It's interesting that Huntsman would do this in the American Conservative, founded by Pat Buchanan, and a redoubt of the realist, paleo right, but maybe it's unsurprising—the magazine ran some of Huntsman's best 2011 coverage, from a cover story by Michael Brendan Dougherty to frequent attaboys for his foreign policy talk. I guess I'm saying this is a big deal for Jon Huntsman but for very, very few other Republicans.
