Obama Tips His Hand on “Executive Orders”

Kudos to ABC News’s Jon Karl, who used today’s White House presser to clear up a fever-causing rumor about gun control. What executive measures might Obama consider if he worked around Congress? The answer: “How we are gathering data, for example, on guns that fall into the hands of criminals. There may be some steps we can take administratively, as opposed to legislation.”

I’m not sure how far you can take this without attaching it to bill that originates from the House. That, in the 1990s, was the sneaky way NRA-backed Republicans initially prevented the government from collecting more data on gun sales. But that’s the idea we have now. It’s harder the “tyranny” that Rep. Jeff Duncan tweeted about when Joe Biden mentioned the “e-word,” executive.
