Joseph Farah’s Drudge-approved conservative news site has signed up Rick Santorum for “commentaries” that will appear every Monday. It feels almost like an attempt to troll the non-conservative media, but I’ll bite. Santorum will follow in the tradition of Herman Cain (columnist until he ran for president) and Chuck Baldwin (former Constitution Party candidate for president), as a politician who uses a popular but little-respected web site to ship out his epistles. He will join current columnists Chuck Norris and Pamela “Atlas Shrugs” Geller.
Santorum’s first column amplifies what he’s been saying at press avails – he’s against the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, because “it would be an egregious move to deny parents of children with disabilities the right to do what they think is in their child’s best interest.” It feels more statesmanlike (or more aspirationally so) than his last columns, the ones he wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer, which usually led with raw politics, in a “I’ve seen things no man should see” sort of tone. Santorum’s enemies tried and failed to find controversial passages in those columns. Unless Santorum picks up some of the WND style by osmosis, I’d expect the same in his new ouevre.
