A Worthwhile White House Petition

This one sums up most of my feelings about the whole endeavor.

Since the White House never actually responds to any petitions in sincerity (like letting the one man whose job it is to oppose marijuana to respond to the marijuana legalization initiative, or having the head of the TSA respond to why we can’t de-fund the TSA) we should immediately de-fund and dismantle the White House petition website. In recent days it has become a mockery with petitions for secession from almost every state, and cities wishing to de-secede in such events. We ask Barack Obama to admit that this is a mockery of democratic process and immediately dissolve this joke of a website.

As a young and foolish man in high school student government, I installed a “suggestion box” for named or anonymous people to give us their priorities. The radio of real ideas to fart jokes/pieces of gum was roughly 1-4. This is the way of all invitations to public comment.

One caveat: I like the Darwin Award effect of the truly silly petitions. The sort of person who signs onto a secession campaign, knowing that 25,000 valid signatures are needed to get a response from the White House, knows that the campaign is 1) useless and 2) puts his information out there, for the government to study, as it continues to rule over him.
