Gabrielle Giffords Leads the Pledge

CHARLOTTE – It made no sense when the first published convention schedule put this moment before prime time. The 8 p.m. crowded definitely wanted to see this.

Giffords has come out into the lens’s view before – but rarely, in very controlled circumstances. When she arrived in the House of Representatives for the final debt deal vote, she was swarmed by colleagues, all of them moving slowly, overwhelming her with affection. Same thing at this year’s State of the Union. On the stage tonight, for really the first time, we got a comprehensive view of Giffords’s difficult walk, and the speed she moves at now.
