Scott Walker, Superstar

TAMPA – I was on the convention floor near the end of the state-by-state roll call. When Wisconsin got its turn to announce delegate totals, Scott Walker stepped to the mic, said his name, and – immediately – got drowned out completely by cheering, standing, jumping Republicans. He rolled his tongue and winked, and thanks to TPM I see that the camera picked it up.

It’s obvious by now, but really hard to overstate. If the 2010 midterms were Midway, Walker’s recall victory in Wisconsin is seen by Republicans as their Guadacanal. “Big Labor” came at him with everything. It lost. At the breakfast for Wisconsin delegates this morning, columnist/voter ID advocate John Fund paraphrased George Washington: “Life’s truest pleasure is when an opponent shoots at you, and misses.”
