Mutiny, I Promise You

It’s been buried a bit in the surging tide of Todd Akin news, which no bodily secretions seem to be able to stop, but – I wrote this piece about the slippery ways Paul Ryan is currently discussing his Medicare plan. Nobody’s expecting a candidate to tell an audience “hey, here are the ways this plan will screw you.” Barack Obama certainly didn’t! But Ryan’s extremely good at tailoring a message so that people who don’t want to save Medicare like it, and people who do want to keep Medicare as-is are generally calmed. The key phrase: “Keep the promise of Medicare.” That means almost anything Ryan wants it to mean.
