Former Arizona Sen. Russell Pearce, tossed from his perch in a 2011 recall election, shares some Jack Handy-ish deep thoughts about Aurora.
He was two and three feet away from folks, I understand he had to stop and reload. Where were the men of flight 93???? Someone should have stopped this man. Someone could have stopped this man. Lives were lost because of a bad man, not because he had a weapon, but because noone was prepared to stop it.
Pearce isn’t some local kook. He’s one of the most influential legislators in the country; SB1070 was his baby, basically. But these ruminations are confusing. The passengers on United 93 – and look, you’d have to be crazy to minimize this, I’m just explaining – were able to plan quietly as one terrorist wielded what looked to be a bomb. They attacked, and a terrorist who couldn’t shoot them was overwhelmed. At this point I guess you can watch the dramatization that was nominated for an Oscar.
Also worth remembering: There were people in Aurora who jumped in front of bullets to save their loved ones. The tenor of these second-guessing, literal armchair-general theories keeps on missing the reality of the situation.
