Poll: The Cost of the Gay Marriage Evolution

Gallup makes the ask:

And so independents, already warm to Mitt Romney, are twice as likely to reject the Obama evolution as they are likely to embrace it. We should wait for some more polls that break down how different racial groups reacted, but most black Americans fit into the Democratic line -- the damage there is limited. If this is going to be a base election, you have to say that the other team's base gained more from the decision. An upside for Obama: This complicates the spin that he only did it to score a few million from gay activists.
