The follow-ups to Jason Horowitz’s original Romney hazing story have run the gamut, all the way from strange to confounding. Key exhibit: Matthew Jaffe’s pulse-quickener with the headline “Sister of Alleged Romney Target Has ‘No Knowledge’ of Any Bullying Incident.”
That’s Jaffe’s lede, too, and he adds Christine Lauber’s quote: “Even if it did happen, John probably wouldn’t have said anything.”
But that’s not new information. From Horowitz, referring to John Lauber:
When the chance to get out of Indiana presented itself, he jumped at it, and enrolled at Cranbrook. He never uttered a word about Mitt Romney or the haircut incident to his sisters.
And Horowitz talked to Lauber’s sisters, referring to two of them as “sister Chris” and “sister Betsy.’ ABC’s headline and lede were already implied in the original story. The only new factoid here is that Lauber “corrected the story, saying her brother was a boarder, not a day student.” Hang on – Horowitz’s story never suggests that Lauber was a day student. Horowitz implies that he wasn’t, because the school was in Michigan, and his family was in Indiana.

So what was Chris Lauber “correcting”? And why didn’t ABC mention that Horowitz, too, had spoken to her?
