A good point here by John Tabin: Why the heck did President Obama misidentify the Falklands as the “Maldives”?
This is a gaffe on top of a gaffe: The Maldives are in the Indian Ocean, and he obviously meant the Malvinas – the Argentine government’s name for The Falklands. But he shouldn’t have been trying to say “Malvinas,” either; that’s an Argentine nationalist propaganda term that implicitly denies the right to self-determination of the 3000 British subjects who live on the Falklands.
It’s enough to make you take Dinesh D’Souza’s argument about Obama seriously. (The whole Kenyan anti-colonial thing.)
Jason Zengerle’s interview with Barney Frank is very interesting, and Frank is the most quotable pol since Disraeli* but I’m not sure why this section is raising eyebrows more than a milimeter.
I think we paid a terrible price for health care. I would not have pushed it as hard. As a matter of fact, after Scott Brown won, I suggested going back. I would have started with financial reform but certainly not health care.
One: Like he says, Frank argued this at the time, immediately. Actually, days before the election (when Massachusetts pols suspected that Coakley was blowing it), he suggested that a Brown win would cancel the Affordable Care Act’s final stages of passage. Two: He was the Banking chairman. We’re surprised that he wanted more time on his issue?
