My new piece, clickable/linkable/shareable right here, is a little study of Republican voters in Mississippi and Alabama. All of them got the same question: Why do you think Barack Obama won in 2008? The most popular answer was some version of “because voters wanted a black president.” I don’t think that’s wrong. For all of the jawing about the “Bradley Effect” four years ago, it was clear that the possibility of electing the first black president was more of a plus for Obama than a negative. Who doubts that it boosted his media appeal?
