Spencer Bachus Alone in a Lifeboat

I spent election night at Rep. Spencer Bachus’s re-nomination party, where the dry, approachable, occasionally compromise-ready congressman celebrated a surprisingly huge victory over a state senator who had Super PAC backing. The intent wasn’t to lionize Bachus in a moment of glorious victory. It was to take a picture of the Republican establishment on one of its worst nights, as Mitt Romney lost Alabama and Roy Moore – Roy Moore! – staged a comeback 10 years after being booted out of office.
