Some weekend reading, on your way to… whatever it is people go to on MLK Day weekend, is up now over at the home page. I review Tom Zoellner’s flawed but worthwhile book A Safeway in Arizona: What the Gabrielle Giffords Shooting Tells Us About the Grand Canyon State and Life in America. It’s an odd casserole of a book, reeling from a truly painful (in the best way) recollection of the massacre to a Holden Caulfield story about the author himself (a bit like Into the Wild, now that I think on it), and into magazine article-style chapters on the things that ruin the country.
