BOW, N.H. – In Iowa, Mitt Romney liked to quote from “America, the Beautiful” and apply lyrics as literally as he could. “Amber waves of grain,” he’d say. “Well, corn could be an amber wave, right?”
In Derry today, Romney kept the meme going with a New Hampshire reference. “Purple mountains majesty,” he said. “Certainly the White Mountains qualify!”
How long can he keep this going? I’ll help him out.
South Carolina, January 21: “Till nobler men keep once again, thy whiter jubilee. Thanks for coming, Bob Jones University!”
Florida, January 29: “Till souls wax fair as earth and air, and music-hearted sea. The Gulf of Mexico, that’s a music-hearted sea, isn’t it?”
Nevada, February 4: “Thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears. Sounds a lot like ‘What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” am I right?”
Colorado, February 7: “America! America, may God thy gold refine. You know what I’m talking about, Pueblo!”
