CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- My new piece, hopefully the only really meta media story I'll write from Iowa, is about the mounting weirdness of the whole thing. The Fourth Estate's sureness that Romney will be the nominee -- echoed by the Romney campaign's sureness of same -- has led to a situation in which everyone realizes the Iowa caucuses really only matter as a winnowing-out exercise. And the caucuses literally don't matter! Delegates won't be assigned for months. It feels like the dry run of "Iowa doesn't matter" coverage is tough to undo now that Santorum might win.
And while you're clicking, read Sasha Issenberg's great piece about the 12 kinds of undecided voters.
