Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Still Birther-Curious

Arizona’s rootin’ tootin’ deportin’ Sheriff Joe Arpaio tweets: This probably deserves some unpacking. Arpaio has appointed a “cold case posse” to investigate rumors – at this point, we’re talking about debunked conspiracy theories, but we’ll say rumors – about Barack Obama’s birth. The Globe has been covering the ins and outs of birtherism since 2008, largely as a function of its mission to report all Obama rumors. (It ran stories about Larry Sinclair, an ex-con who claims without evidence to have shared a coke-and-sex fueled evening with the president.) And Arpaio is noting the Globe’s interest in the story as evidence that he’s on to something.
