Newt Gingrich is Reaganing!

My new piece explains how a friendly businessman named Mike George is getting every Republican presidential candidate to sign a pledge and use his consulting strategy, Lean Six Sigma, to balance the budget with efficiency instead of tough cuts.

One thing I didn’t spend too much time on here is how George’s adherents suggest we could use Lean Six Sigma consulting techniques to make cuts so deep as to make entitlement reform unnecessary. That’s not quite what George says. He wants the consulting pledge adopted, then he wants Republicans to be serious about Bowles-Simpson or some other plan. But the starting point for this is the GOP pledge to, if elected, use that strategy that 30 Rock made fun of.
