Where Were You When You Heard That Jon Huntsman Was Being Endorsed by Jeb Bush, Jr.?

Yesterday afternoon Jon Huntsman’s campaign issued a schedule alert for a “major announcement” in South Florida. A last-place candidate hyping something like that – well, it could mean anything. For Huntsman’s sake I hope it isn’t actually this.

Today Jon Huntsman for President announced the endorsement of Jeb Bush, Jr. and Ana Navarro. Jeb will serve as National Chair of GenH - the campaign’s youth and young professionals outreach program - and Ana will join the campaign as National Hispanic Chairperson.

Jeb Bush, Jr.! Ah, I recall October 2007, when Rudy Giulani announced the endorsement of Jeb Bush, Jr., and then went on to win the Florida primary. Or did something else happen?

This can’t really be it, can it? An endorsement from a small-time-but-famous Republican politician announced on the campaign’s blog then announced again with a press conference? An endorsement that has not, in the past, come with Jeb Bush, Sr.’s endorsement? Either Huntsman is going to surprise us, or we’re going to have to revisit the conventional wisdom that “he’s setting himself up brilliantly for a 2016 campaign.”
