The petitions in three state Senate districts
have been reviewed
; the recall attempts against three Republican state senators will most likely go forward
In considering the challenges to individual signatures, the GAB staff came up with 21,776 valid signatures against Kapanke, 22,953 against Hopper and 22,207 against Olsen. That's well over the 15,588, 15,269 and 14,733 needed, respectively, to force elections for the three.
Democrats turned in far, far more petitions than they needed; the Tea Party/Republican petitions cut things a little closer, but
those counts aren't done yet
. So there will be at least three recall elections on a hot July day, and Republicans I talk to say Kapanke and Hopper are definitely at risk, while Olsen is probably safer. That's in line with original polling that
showed Kapanke
to be more or less doomed; although on the upside, he might be living in an open swing seat if Rep. Ron Kind runs for governor.
