It’s Hard Out Here for a Viral Video Candidate

Number of YouTube views for California Democrat Dan Adler’s disturbing “we minorities should stick together” ad: 231,595.

Number of votes cast for Adler in yesterday’s CA-36 special election (before all absentees are counted): 285 .

This means that for every 813 people who watched the video, Adler got only one vote. He even got fewer votes than “likes” on the video’s YouTube page. Morals of the story: 1) viral fame does not equal political success, and 2) Sean Astin is not really challenging Karl Rove’s status as a campaign manager.
