RSC Chairman Jordan Won’t Say What Abortion Deal Republicans Will Take

In a conference call organized by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio didn’t really get specific about what Republicans could put up with to pass a continuing resolution. The point of the call was to blast President Obama for being willing to “shut down the government over Planned Parenthood” – flipping the blame from the GOP to Democrats, with the attack coming from the chairman of the Republican Study Committee. (That’s fair – nobody can agree, so everybody’s at fault.)

But when pressed about what the current language on Planned Parenthood looked like, and whether it was unacceptable, Jordan didn’t know.

“In conference the Speaker did not go into any detail about the so-called riders,” said Jordan, “and what the language is, or what the agreement is on those particular issues. My assumption is he told Senator Reid that would be the case. I just don’t know.”

There was a follow-up: Was there any language on a rider that would be acceptable to Jordan? This was a chance for Jordan to say it was the full rider or nothing. He didn’t say that.

“We have to see the final product,” said Jordan. “If there is some language put together, I assume Marjorie [Dannenfelser, president of SBA List] would look at it and see if she’s comfortable with the language. I assume I’d do the same.”
