When you consider that only 24 percent of people doubt Obama’s citizenship – 34 percent of conservatives, 37 percent of Republicans, 41 percent of Tea Party activists – that’s a really high number of people who aren’t offended by birtherism. If true, it’s a huge difference between this and 9/11 conspiracy theory-mongering – the belief that Rep. Cynthia McKinney was a “truther” cost her her House seat in 2002.
