demonstrates the annoyance
of House Democrats rather nicely.
After the 2008 election, Democrats had not only the presidency but a large majority in the Senate. Yet that did not lead conservatives to say Democrats won the right to adopt their public policies. Instead, they engaged, as is their constitutional duty, in vigorous fights against those policies.
For them to now say that, because the Republicans won a majority of the House in 2010 — a smaller majority than the Democrats did in 2008 — they have the moral right to compel acquiescence in their policy choices from the president and the Senate is not only wholly inconsistent with their own approach two years ago; it violates both the letter and the spirit of the Constitution.
*The problem with an op-ed from someone who has an extremely distinctive voice is that you can tell when it’s not all him in there.
