Matt Lewis flags a post from Mitt Romney Central , arguing that the Obama 2012 launch video – crafted, remember, for his e-mail list of supports – may rip off a Romney slogan.
Gov. Mitt Romney was actually the first candidate to use “Change” as a slogan during the 2008 primaries… President Obama stole the first word of Mitt’s “Change begins with us” slogan in 2008 and now has stolen the rest for 2012.
This is pretty hilarious. First, every politician campaigns on change. Second, Barack Obama launched his campaign in February 2007 and was already working the “change” theme.
This campaign has to be about reclaiming the meaning of citizenship, restoring our sense of common purpose, and realizing that few obstacles can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.
Third, after Obama won the Iowa caucuses, Romney re-emphasized change as his campaign theme (this is what led to the brutal put-down from McCain in the final New Hampshire candidate debate: “I agree, you are the candidate of change”) and rolled out a new sign:
Yes: A sign modeled after the Obama “CHANGE we can believe in” sign, complete with Gotham font.
