American Crossroads Goes Large Against Unions

The conservative 501(c)4 Crossroads GPS announces a $750,000 ad buy which will run for one week on CNBC, CNN, and Fox News. The ad:

I don’t know; this strikes me as a case of coals being shipped to Newcastle. A Fox News viewer, presumably, is well acquainted with Rep. Mike Capuano, D-Mass., telling union members they need to “get a little bloody” to defend their rights sometimes.* A CNBC viewer might be smart enough to realize that when NEA General Counsel Bob Chanin says the union is effective “not because we care about children,” he’s using a rhetorical gimmick – there are, presumably, people who care about children and aren’t effective. This is going to get attention (from people like me, for example), but the battle over public sector unions is really joined in Wisconsin at those parking lots where people are getting recall signatures.

Also, broken record time: The fight is not about currently pay cuts (which unions are grudgingly accepting for now) but collective bargaining.

*Just like I’m not offended by Tea Party signs that quote Thomas Jefferson’s line about the Tree of Liberty, I wasn’t terribly offended by Capuano, but he apologized, so there you go.
