I’m a bit late to this Frank Luntz focus group about opinions on President Barack Obama. The whole thing is worth the clickthrough.
But if you don’t he to watch the video, here are the comments that stand out. On Obama’s plans for Egypt:
- “I don’t think he has a grasp on how serious this could be. He doesn’t seem to know what the details are and what we want and what we need as a country.”
- “I do think it’s quite possible he is Muslim, even though he says he is Christian. But I think that this type of rhetoric, he’s waffling on both sides.”
- “He is Neville Chamberlain in 1939. He’s an appeaser and he will lead us down the path to distruction if we’re not careful.”
On Obama’s philosophy:
- “I think he believes that America is at fault for the world’s problems. I think the – he doesn’t see the good that America does in the world.”
- “Remember, he runs around apologizing, apologizing for things. What we do wrong? We prosper as a nation, we pay for things and we give relief to other countries.”
On what they want in a 2012 GOP candidate:
- “I’m looking for a patriot. And I want him to have a Constitution in his pocket, a Bible in one hand and a bottle of Maalox in the other.”
- “I want someone back to Reagan. He took and he stood up to the Russians. He didn’t apologize for anything.”
On Chris Christie:
- “He’s the only person that is going to stand up against whatever special interests is out there.”
On Mitt Romney:
- “He knows a lot about the economy and how to make it run and what to do.”
On Sarah Palin:
“I believe she would stand up for free enterprise, I believe. Small business, the providers of society.” ’
Luntz keeps everything moving quickly, so I don’t blame anyone for failing to tie their beliefs to substance. No, wait – I do. Is there anything in this that’s not obviously based on watching Fox News or YouTubes of the various candidates and Obama? Obviously, Obama rose to power on the strength of his own image – I’m not saying his supporters were careful wonks. But this is something else.
