He’s the son of the late senator who gave an extremely well-received eulogy at his father’s funeral, and he’s built a legal career in Connecticut.
Even before [Joe] Lieberman’s retirement announcement, there was already talk Kennedy might run. Former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, a Democrat who announced this week she would challenge Lieberman, conducted a recent poll that reportedly showed her beating Kennedy in a primary.
I grabbed coffee in the Russell Senate offices today and happened to sit across from Kennedy, who was having coffee with former Sen. Chris Dodd. The former senator, of course, won a seat ten years after his father, Thomas Dodd, lost his. Decorum was observed; I didn’t eavesdrop, and I didn’t TMZ either man about the talk. Kennedy had his whole family in tow; there were memorial events in D.C. today for the 50th anniversary of JFK’s inaugural.
Joe Kennedy III, nephew of Teddy and grandson of RFK, was talked up as a congressional challenger in 2010; he happened to live in the seat opened up by the retirement of Bill Delahunt. He passed on the run, however, and Democrats held the seat, so that door’s closed. He’s currently being
talked up
as a challenger to Sen. Scott Brown. He is 30, the age that Ted Kennedy was when he won that seat.
