Republican Who Ran Anti-Islam “Victory Mosque” Ad Headed to Foreign Affairs Committee

In September, North Carolina congressional candidate Renee Ellmers – who went from a longshot to a contender after incumbent Rep. Bob Etheridge throttled and bear-hugged a video tracker – ran this ad.

Ellmers won, and today she got her committee assignments:

I am very pleased and honored to announce I have been recommended to serve on the Agriculture, Small Business and Foreign Affairs committees in the 112th Congress. These assignments will put me in a unique position to work on issues particularly important to the constituents of the Second District.

In her statement noting the Foreign Affairs assignment, Ellmers notes that the 2nd district is “home to many active members of the military stationed at Fort Bragg.” Etheridge, however, did not serve on the committee, instead holding slots on Ways and Means and the Budget Committee.
