Glenn Beck is Still Stuck on Van Jones

In the NYRB, Mark Lilla has an interesting, if not exactly groundbreaking, review of Glenn Beck’s literary works and the works about him. The article got me to check out the last few weeks of Beck’s show, and I noticed something. Beck still, constantly, talks about Van Jones, whom a Beck-led 2009 campaign turned into a former White House adviser. Jones, now a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, remains a constant subject of discussion on Beck’s Fox News show. In just the last week, Beck mentioned Jones – via a 14-month old video of Jones talking in his usual terms about revolutionary social change.

I want to show you new video that came in over the weekend. We have Van Jones saying that violence is coming.

December 7:

Do you remember the progressive strategy meeting during the summer that we showed you the videotape where Van Jones said, bottom-up, give them a reason and they will rise up. Bottom-up!

December 8:

A throwback to wild and crazy radical elements? Wow! Would that be like Bill Ayers, who’s now writing textbooks in school or more like Van Jones, that has got a giant pedestal all over the country, you know, for the president and George Soros.

December 9:

Now, let me show you a new video. This is the latest from Van Jones and I want you to notice the date on this. This happened last September. Listen to what he’s saying here.

December 13:

The hacktivist who support him talked of creating a “force for chaotic good.” What is that? It achieves their end. Van Jones is talking about creating chaos when he talks about bottom- up, inside-out and top comes crashing down.

Dead horse: Beaten. Right?
