Bring Me the Head of Julian Assange!

Rep. Pete King (R-NY), the incoming chairman of the Homeland Security, has officially requested that the State Department look at how it can designate WikiLeaks a Foreign Terrorist Organization and “work with the Swedish government to determine the means by which Mr. Julian Assange can be brought to justice for his actions while recognizing and respecting Swedish sovereign law.”

He’s joined by the Homeland Security chairman in the Senate, Joe Lieberman.

I also urge the Obama Administration — both on its own and in cooperation with other responsible governments around the world — to use all legal means necessary to shut down Wikileaks before it can do more damage by releasing additional cables. Wikileaks’ activities represent a shared threat to collective international security.

In August, when WikiLeaks released the documents stolen by Pfc. Bradley Manning regarding the war in Afghanistan, Marc Thiessen called for Julian Assange to be indicted, and WikiLeaks to be combated as a terrorist organization. This opinion is now firmly in the conservative and neoliberal mainstream.
