I really intended to stay away from this TMZ story about Sarah Palin’s daughter Willow calling a schoolmate who criticized “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” “gay” and a “faggot.” And then the gay Republican group shoots out a statement criticizing, uh, the liberal media.
Willow Palin is a 16 year old girl who, like all 16 year olds is going to make mistakes and say things she shouldn’t have. This, however, has nothing to do with Willow Palin or the substance of what she said on Facebook. The ‘slur’ used here is one you could hear on the streets of West Hollywood or Chelsea every day of the week. Apparently, it’s only a ‘homophobic slur’ when it comes from the daughter of a conservative female leader. Make no mistake; this is all about destroying Sarah Palin by any means necessary.
The angry misogynistic left and their accomplices in the main stream media have been unable to take down Governor Palin - no matter how hard they have tried. Unable to take her down directly they now have decided to try to hurt her by attacking the most important thing in her life - her family.
Any person, gay or straight, who participates in this cheap political smear should be ashamed of themselves.
I like Tammy and GOProud, but this is totally incoherent. It’s impossible to imagine a context in which a straight person calling someone “gay” and a “faggot” is not a slur, just as, to Palin, any use of the word “retard” or “retarded” is a slur against mentally disabled people. Why it’s the “misogynistic left” raising a stink about this, I have no idea. The mini-furor over Willow Palin did not strike me as an attempt to “take down” Palin – not every criticism of a public figure’s family is a takedown attempt. Could some people honestly ask why a would-be president’s kid would freely throw around anti-gay slurs?
This, from TMZ, was also confusing.
Sources connected to the Palin family tell us… Willow normally doesn’t use this type of language, but she felt like she was being attacked along with her family. The source added it was the baby bear defending Mama Grizzly.
It’s obviously misogynistic to ask why someone’s immediate response to criticism of her mother would be to call the critic a “faggot.”
Back to GOProud, though. Their political mission is sound. They have cleverly teamed up with Tea Party activists to demand that the new GOP majority stays away from social issues. And it makes sense for them to proclaim solidarity with social conservatives from time to time. But acting as a get-out-of-slur free card to get attention doesn’t strike me as a serious way of doing that.
