Saul Anuzis, who came in third in the 2009 RNC chairman race, has jumped into the race to replace Michael Steele. He’s the first candidate to actually make a bid official , and the first with pull among RNC members – he was chairman of the Michigan GOP in 2008, then an aide to Steele’s RNC on tech issues, then an RNC committeeman.
My agenda is very straightforward. I have no interest in running for office. I won’t be writing a book. It is not my goal to be famous. However, you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who will work harder, more diligently and be more committed to electing Republicans from the top to every township and city across this great country of ours.
Subtle! I’ve had plenty of conversations with Republicans who think that Anuzis could have won this job in 2009 if things had broken differently. He lacked some of the connections of Katon Dawson, the South Carolina GOP chair. But he also lacked Dawson’s PR problems, including membership in a whites-only country club and an interview saying he had been driven to the Republican Party over his anger at busing. Anuzis’s challenge indicates that the math is there for a Steele defeat.
