I’m Not That Scary Lady from San Francisco! I’m Really Not!

It’s my favorite cliche of 2010: The Sad Man in Plaid who rejects Nancy Pelosi and all her works, even though he’s a Democrat. Here’s Rep. Jim Marshall, in a dogfight for re-election in Georgia:

The success of these ads depends on whether voters are gullible, and whether they really think the test of unacceptable liberalism is supporting the scary San Francisco lady on their TV or whether it’s handing power to the rest of the Democrats.

Democrats were skeptical, in 2006 and 2008, that Pelosi could become demonized as Newt Gingrich had become demonized. I think we’re learning that with $1 billion of negative ads, you could demonize peanut butter sandwiches.
