The gay Republican group GOProud fires off an attack on Barney Frank, who’s spending money to defend himself in a reasonably tight race.
Meanwhile, Frank’s opponent Sean Bielat gets Ladd Ehlinger (he of
Dale Peterson fame
) to cut this ad:
OK, look. Part of the attraction of running ads that make fun of a gay politician by calling him “catty” and using a disco ball is that you expect everyone to be too hip to point out that this seems like you’re playing on his sexuality. And GOProud has some credibility when it does this; there’s obviously no anti-gay malice at work, just ribbing. But still,
come on
. Everyone in the district knows that Frank is gay, so I’m not sure this over-the-top strategy makes more sense than just nailing Frank on his record, as Bielat has been doing.
