The Most Important Picnic of All Time

Add me to the skeptics of Christine O’Donnell’s excuse for bailing on Face the Nation and Fox News Sunday tomorrow.

Campaign spokeswoman Diana Banister cited scheduling conflicts andsaid O’Donnell needed to return to Delaware for commitments to churchevents and afternoon picnic with Republicans in a key county where shehas solid backing.

OK. These shows tape in downtown Washington and wrap early in the morning. The picnic is at Dave Wilson’s Auction in Lincoln, Delaware, in the northern part of Sussex County. It takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes to drive from D.C. to there, and the pinic doesn’t start until 2 p.m. So this isn’t really an excuse at all.

The other odd decisions here come from the networks. Fox News responded to the O’Donnell diss by booking Joe Miller, the GOP candidate for U.S. Senate in Alaska. CBS responded by booking ex-Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson and GOP strategist Ed Rollins. CBS I get, because the O’Donnell originally balanced out an interview with Bill Clinton, but does no one want to interview Chris Coons? Really? Because, you know, he’s winning the election so far.
