The Beckopaloozza Pregame

Believe it or not, the ambitions of Glenn Beck’s 8/28 “Restoring Honor” rally have been scaled down since it was first announced. Originally, it was set to be a launch for his book, The Plan , but cooler heads prevailed and it’s now being sold as a completely nonpartisan, honor-the-troops, honor-the-founders rally. It’s also being tied in with two events by the big tea party training groups, Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks. The latter group is hosting a rally at , appropriately, Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall.

Basic admission is $15 and includes the program, get out the votematerials, and a free t-shirt - it does not include dinner. Generaladmission is $25 and includes a t-shirt, and Red, Hot, & Blue BBQdinner. VIP admission is $75 and includes a t-shirt, premier seating, and reception with FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey, selectFreedomWorks PAC-endorsed Champions of Freedom, and other special guests.

That overlaps a little with the AFP event , held at the Marriot Wardman Park in northwest D.C., and which includes transportation to the rally as part of the price of a ticket. The rest of the event: Training sessions, movies, and some speakers who decided to take the time out in a weekend when many Washingtonians skedaddle out of here.

I’ve heard, to my surprise, that Beck fans are already scoping out places on the mall – it surprises me because camping overnight is not allowed. But if liberals were expecting this to flop, even after 9/12/09… well, expect something else.
