Players have to be merciless to win Monopoly, but Hasbro hopes fans will show some charity and save their favorite game piece from going directly to jail ... forever.
The car, thimble, boot, Scottie dog, battleship, hat, iron, and wheelbarrow are all up for elimination on a Facebook contest set up for players to vote and save their favorite piece. The page sets all the classic tokens in a mock jail lineup and lists individual offenses. The Scottie dog’s crime? “Refuses to sit.”
The piece with the fewest votes will be removed from future game sets.
Hasbro’s marketing gimmick also unveiled the five new candidates to replace the piece tossed out, including a guitar, helicopter, ring, robot, and cat.
So far, the Scottie dog has a wide lead in voting, and it seems either the wheelbarrow or hat may never pass Go and collect $200 again.
