Despite their highly touted new Retina display, new iPads may be falling behind the iPad Mini.
Apple is expected to ship 12 million iPad Minis this quarter, according to a top analyst, compared with shipments of between 10 million and 15 million for all other iPads combined. But a recent poll found that while just 6 percent of Apple Stores said iPads had limited availability, 96 percent said iPad Minis were limited based on factors like color and storage options.
Analysts cite price—Minis start at $329, versus $499 for regular iPads—and the sleek, smaller size as driving consumer demand.
Not surprisingly, rumors began flowing this week that Apple is making an upgrade to the visual display of iPad Minis a top priority.
