GOP Senate Failure Faithfully Blames “Liberal Media” for Loss

The GOP has cast a wide excuse net to explain its losses in 2012, but sometimes it’s easier to stick with a classic: It was all the liberal media’s fault.

That’s the M.O. of Richard Mourdock, whose Senate bid in Indiana was derailed after comments he made about rape and abortion at a debate perilously close to the election. In a new fundraising pitch to pay outstanding debts, Mourdock’s camp claims he was caught in “liberal media crosshairs,” with “reporters more interested in defeating conservatives than reporting the news.”

Mourdock, of course, made national news with his comments, saying he opposed abortion exceptions because even in the case of a rape pregnancy, “that it is something that God intended to happen.”

Mourdock’s insurgent campaign ousted Sen. Richard Lugar, a moderate Republican, from his longtime seat—and ultimately helped Democrats retain control of the Senate.
