While many spoke up to see Maine, Washington, and Maryland legalize same-sex marriage via the ballot this past election, one new voice stands out in particular.
Morgan Freeman, whose distinctive voice lends itself to many documentaries and commercials, can now be heard in a new TV spot supporting same-sex marriage. The commercial, released by the Human Rights Campaign, began airing nationally last weekend: “Freedom, justice and human dignity have always guided our journey toward a more perfect union,” Freeman narrates. “Now, across our country, we are standing together for the right of gay and lesbian Americans to marry the person they love.”
HRC president Chad Griffin issued a statement on the timing of the ad, saying “As we continue the march toward full equality in legislatures and the courts … an equal future is no longer up for debate; the question now is how soon it will arrive.”
